Catching Up
Yeah, I'm way behind with my blogging and picture-posting, but I just popped in to share these:- Happy 8th birthday, Max! (that's 56 dog years. Who would've thought?)

Now, that’s winning

CLARKE QUAY, Singapore— Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez proudly carried the Philippine flag all the way to the end. With that, they accomplished what they set out to do when they joined the “Amazing Race Asia” Season 2.
The Best Buddies dominated the entire season by coming in first in a span of eight legs, seven of which they won consecutively. It was a feat no other team came close to topping, not even in the US version of the show.
Toughest rivals
But it was their toughest rivals, Gym Buddies Collin Low and Adrian Yap from Singapore, who first crossed the finish line at Chinese Garden in Jurong and won the grand prize in a race that took 10 teams across and around Asia.
“It couldn’t have been better—the underdogs defeated the big bad team from the Philippines,” says Marc jokingly during the AXN-Caltex Chevron Finale party at IndoChine Bar and Restaurant. “Adrian and Collin’s victory is a victory for all of us.”
Adrian’s hearing disability made another first in TAR franchise history. He can read lips but Collin often used sign language to communicate with him during the race.
“This only goes to show that physical disability is not a hindrance and anything is possible,” says Collin to the show’s cheering friends and fans.
It was neck-and-neck all the way to the end. The last roadblock ultimately made the difference: Adrian easily finished the chore of arranging the flags of countries in the order they visited. Sisters Pamela and Vanessa Chong from Malaysia came in second.
Rovilson recounts: “We were fans of the show and we were watching all the episodes (US version) with the season that had the hippies (TAR9). When we got to the hotel, there was only one episode left, a flag episode. We were about to watch that when the AXN people came into our room and took everything, our phone, our iPod.”
At this point the duo playfully blame the person who confiscated their iPod.
“We had all the challenges memorized, except that one. I could—I would—have studied it. One episode, swear to God, true story,” Rovilson says. He wouldn’t change anything in the way they ran the race, he adds. His only regret is that he “let Marc down.”
Signature jump
Besides their winning streak, the duo made a mark in the TARA series with their side-splitting antics. Rovilson says their signature jump whenever they reached the mat has become a household cheer in the Philippines.
The duo would soon be auctioning off the T-shirts they used that had funny one-liners like “Looking for a teammate with a sense of direction.” They haven’t decided on which charitable institution the benefits will go to; but they’re sure it will be one that relates to children.
Choice partner
Asked whom he will pick as partner if AXN decides to separate them—in case they make it to the all-stars version—Rovilson says he’ll pick either Ernie or Gina Lopez and one more.
“Maybe Vanessa, maybe the Malaysian teams because Malaysia teams are very tough as the show’s history has shown,” he explains. A romance brewing? With all the cheek he could muster, Rovilson gave the safe, show biz answer, “We’re just hanging out.”
The Singapore team took the $100,000 cash prize but Marc and Rovilson will not go home empty-handed. Their prizes adds up to about P2 million, including a trip to South Africa and free gas for a year, from Caltex. Not to mention several offers to do other TV shows.
Now, that’s winning.
