A New Hope
Layla turned one yesterday! The Vargases and Ortegas celebrated with a simple lunch at the Asiana in Palms Country Club.Soon after Layla's birthday lunch, she dressed up as Yoda and joined her brother Tristan (dressed as Jason from Friday the 13th) and cousin Riannon (dressed as the Corpse Bride, and winner of the Most Creative Costume) in a Halloween Spook Fest. Check them out! Riannon's mom, Jan, made the Corpse Bride costume herself! Amazing! I love the purple dreadlocks!
Here's Riannon with her prize, a windsock (it's inside the orange triangle) made by Bianca's friend Nina (the master costume maker!).
This afternoon, Layla, Tristan, and my sisters are joining my office's Halloween Circus. There's a prize for the Best Family in Costume. Thanks to Dexter (who lent me the helmet) and Nina (who lent me a cape), I'll be Darth Vader. Alia will be a Stormtrooper (yes, the helmet Papa bought back in 1978 is still alive!), Bianca said she will be "someone from the cantina", and Tristan will be a Jedi. Layla will reprise her role as Yoda. If all goes well, Yaya Dovic will be C3-PO. And if all goes according to plan, WE WILL WIN! (The Force runs strong in our family...).
How much cuter can a young padawan get? I love it that Layla's not old enough to complain about our costume choices for her. Hahaha! Begun, a new generation has, hrmm? Happy first birthday, my dear little Teapot!
