And What Were *They* Thinking?!!

Good Lord, it gets worse. This brings me back to my university days when La Salle was in the finals against UST. I don't know who started the coin-and-water bottle-throwing (I got hit by a water bottle, by the way), but someone from the La Salle side said something really base like "Tuition niyo baon ko!" Hello?

Over at www.greenarcher.net, I read about people throwing bottles and shouting obscenities at opponents. Someone posted a comment about Salgado "stooping down to the level of FEU". Dude, I would rather quietly walk away from the court like the gentlemen the FEU Tamaraws showed they are. Who is stooping down to what level now? As one of the Brothers wrote in his reply to my email this morning, "even if we ended up champion, we've lost that inner sense of satisfaction because of all this."

I have always been of the opinion that SOME people (take note: I did not say "all". I said "some") who did not attend schools like La Salle and Ateneo from beginning to end (i.e., from Prep to Senior High School to College) are the ones who act the worst. Or who behave the least like a good La Sallite or a good Atenean. In fact, most of them (most of the "some" or in statistical terms "the sample population = n") are the stereotype mayabang Lasalita and elitistang Atenista. They did not have to make their own rosaries back in grade school (with 6 decades like the Brothers, no less!). They did not "learn" about St. John Baptist de la Salle being the patron saint of teachers, and starting the La Salle schools to help educate the poor (incidentally, all of St. La Salle's schools IN THE BEGINNING were free. Makes you wonder about the outrageous tuition fess, huh? The price our parents pay/paid for our good education). They were not brainwashed with Religio, Mores, and Cultura. They did not "learn" about St. Ignatius de Loyola and his role during the Crusades. They do not "know" about being "a man for others". Sad. Although, I must admit - some true greenbloods do act like orcs and goblins sometimes. Not all of us are "clean". Haaay....

I'm not generalising. I'm simply stating what I have observed since childhood (again, I am referring to the statistical n that I have encountered). Forgive me, I don't want to pick a fight, but being the daughter of a "through and through" La Sallite, and having been a member of one of the first set of co-ed students to attend La Salle from Prep to High School to College, and having represented DLSU in various activities makes me emotional about these things. Some of my closest friends are Ateneans, and graduates from UA&P, UST, UP, etc. Today is one of those days that maybe some of us wish we went to UP for College - no one judges a student from UP! All they are is cool and down to earth. It's just a basketball game! Can't we all just get along?

---

Earlier this afternoon, I found DLSU's official statement over at www.hshs.blogpot.com -

De La Salle University-Manila regrets the incident which happened right after the first game of the UAAP Men’s Basketball finals series at the Araneta Coliseum on 29 September 2005. Many persons witnessed the unsportsmanlike behavior of one official of our Men’s Basketball Team. The incident was also captured on national television. We certainly will not condone any such act especially if it harms others. This incident does not reflect the values we stand for as an educational institution. We apologize to Arwind Santos and the Far Eastern University community, to the other UAAP member-schools and to the general public. We will fully cooperate with the UAAP investigation of the incident and abide by their decision. Mr. Manny Salgado has apologized to the DLSU community and has voluntarily withdrawn from the team. Many of us witnessed how well-fought this game was and how it has brought out the best in both teams. We hope that this rivalry will remain a venue for bringing out the best among our teams and supporters.

Br. ROBERTO CASINGAL FSC Director, Sports Development Office
Dr. CARMELITA QUEBENGCO Executive Vice President, De La Salle University-Manila
Br. ARMIN LUISTRO FSC President, De La Salle University System

Ok. There. That's done. Let's put this behind us. We have more pressing things to worry about like clean water for all, 3 square meals a day for underprivileged children, our roller-coaster economy, the educational system, the jobless rate, how we're all going to spend our hard-earned money on a Payday Friday,.... Me? I need to go back to doing my part in helping uplift the Filipino worker. Two more weeks....

What Was He Thinking?

Yes, I am still a big fan of UAAP Men's Basketball. La Salle-Ateneo games, in particular, are a big thing in my house. No one goes out, except to watch in Araneta. And yes, I know that my alma mater lost Game 1 of the finals against the FEU Tamaraws yesterday (dude, the Tams rock! They are sooooooo good this year!). But no, I am not saddened by the loss. There is still Game 2 on Sunday. However...there is another score that needs to be settled....

I wrote to two La Salle Brothers earlier today about DLSU Men's Basketball Team Manager Manny Salgado. Unfortunately, I missed the game (it's called "work"), but I saw what Salgado did to FEU's Arwind Santos while watching the sports news last night, and I read about it in the papers this morning.

I am somewhat consoled by the fact that Salgado did not go to school in Zobel. BUT his actions are certainly unbecoming of a La Sallite (or La Sallian - if you went to Zobel, you should know the difference) and it reflects very poorly on all us good, green-blooded students, alumni, faculty and staff. I hope that the Brothers Community will not tolerate Salgado's behavior, and will issue some kind of statement or sanction against him. I think An-an is writing to the Brothers, too.

Yesterday was a sad day to be a La Sallite - not because we lost the game, but because we have among us one who openly does not share our values. If the UAAP Board sanctions the entire team for Salgado's actions, I will not protest. In fact, I will welcome it. Although it will be hard to accept that the action of one man ruined an entire school's reputation. I hope Salgado knows what he's done.

More Songs When You're Lost

So Roman (over at http://daddychoy.blogspot.com) blogged that he tried to stay awake while driving from California to Arizona at 11PM. He got to thinking of that infamous "Five CDs I would take if I were marooned on an island" game, and drew up his list.

But he set rules! -
(1) No "Greatest Hits" albums. This is a real bummer for me because that rules out "The Best of the Beatles", Depeche Mode's "The Singles 86>98", "Now that's what I call quite good" by The Housemartins, "The Best of Sting", and "Best of U2 1980-1990" - any of which could easily have landed on my list.
(2) Only one album per artist. What?!

Only 5 CD's? Wait...I really need to think about this one. I can't live without music, period. Back when I was assigned in Bangkok for 9 months (this was in 2001), I survived with these 12 CDs:
(1) "Best of U2 1980-1990" - of course! But this is technically a double CD album. Hehehe.
(2) "Sting: Complete Chicago Sessions" - something I found in the old CD Warehouse shop in Greenhills . I love it!
(3) "Love Deluxe" by Sade (surprise, surprise)
(4) "Let's Get Killed" by David Holmes (the guy who did the music on "Ocean's Eleven". Some of tracks on that film came from this album)
(5) "The Freedom Sessions" by Sarah McLachlan
(6) "Dummy" by Portishead
(7) "Portishead" by Portishead
(8) some trance mix CD that Gars put together for me that had this super extended version of "Silence" by Delirium (featuring Sarah McLachlan)
(9) "The Radio Active Sago Project" by The Radio Active Sago Project - Lord knows how I explained "Baboy" to my Thai officemates.
(10) "Memories Are Cheap: The Best of True Faith 1993-2000" by True Faith
(11) "Songs From the Thievery Hi-Fi" by The Thievery Corporation
(12) "The Chill Out Project" by Anton Ramos

Of course, while I was there, I ended up buying the original sountrack of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Cachaito" by Orlando Cachaito Lopez of the Buena Vista Social Club (fantastic album! Beautiful recording!). Then Jeric and Jerome came over to visit and brought my copy of "Rent", and Jeric gave me the original soundtrack of "Woman on Top" (wonderful album, horrible film).

So, there. My list of essentials while sent to another country on assignment. I can't remember what I brough to Ho Chi Minh City when I was there for a week. I'm sure that Love Spirals Downward, Sting and U2 were there somewhere. Anyway....

Now to cut my list down to 5 that are suitable enough for a deserted island, and following Roman's rules, (in no particular order):
(1) "Rattle and Hum" by U2 - it's not counted as a greatest hits album. Ha!
(2) "Mirrorball" by Sarah McLachlan - also not counted as a greatest hits album, although it has some of the goodies from her earlier releases live.
(3) "Essence and Rare" by Everything But The Girl - an official hard-to-find released-in-Japan only compilation not labelled as "the best of". Roman, I'm getting away with a lot here, hahaha!
(4) This compilation CD I found long ago called "And the winner is..." which has all the original songs from Walt Disney animated films that won "Best Song" at the Oscars up until "Aladdin".
(5) The soundtrack of one of my favorite films, "The Commitments". Everyone needs some soul every once in a while.

Wow, that was hard to do! Can't I bring 20?

(Hahaha! I just remembered that scene from "Lost" when Hurley was listening to a CD on his portable player, then the batteries died. Torture!)

I shouldn't allow myself to get thoroughly depressed on that island, right, so these albums, although among my favorites, are out:
(1) "The Hurting" by Tears for Fears
(2) "Dulcinea" by Toad the Wet Sprocket
(3) Any album by or including PJ Harvey, Lamb, Love Spirals Downward, Mazzy Star, Morcheeba, Portishead, The Slave Drum, Emiliana Torrini.

Other CDs that almost made it on the list:
(1) "Zipless" by Vanessa Daou
(2) "No Need to Argue" by The Cranberries
(3) "Spirit Chaser" by Dead Can Dance - simply because I can't sing along to any of the songs! So that had to go!
(4) "Ah Via Musicom" by Eric Johnson - no lyrics! Except for one or two songs. He should just stick to playing the guitar.
(5) "K" by Kula Shaker
(6) "Protection" by Massive Attack
(7) Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The King and I" with Ben Kingsley, Julie Andrews, Lea Salonga, Peabo Bryson and Martin Sheen
(8) The soundtrack of "The Matrix"
(9) "Bring on the Night" by Sting
(10) "Five Man Acoustical Jam" by Tesla

Ok. I'm lost at work. Got to get back to where my attention belongs....

This Month in Music

Happiness is a new CD. Especially if it's a good one. I used to get 2 to 3 new CDs a month. Then I "spent" the last year and a half buying books, semi-updating my wardrobe to keep my fashionista friends quiet (my "style" hasn't really changed since I was 12) and to make sure that I actually FIT into something (yes, I have gained a LOT of weight), and paying off debts. In the last 12 months, I only remember buying Jet's "Get Born", Coldplay's "A Rush of Blood to the Head" and "Frances the Mute" by the Mars Volta. I'm surprised by how little airplay Jet gets in Manila. "Get Born" is a great album!

In any case, I swung by the Odessey sale at the Alabang Town Centre a month ago and found a couple of good deals (or should I say "steals"?) that I couldn't resist - "G3 Live: Rockin' in the Free World" (double disc set) and "The Electric Joe Satriani: An Anthology" (double disc set that includes the walang kamatayang "Always With Me, Always With You") - Php250 per set. They are soooooo worth it!

But in the last 3 weeks, because I didn't want to "sing" guitar riffs at the top of my lungs and annoy the hell out of my officemates, my "office CD case" has gone alternative rock. Sort of. Things I can listen to with my earphones and don't necessarily have to sing along to. Haha! The CDs that have been living in my office CD case are:

"Kasabian" by Kasabian (2004) - a fantastic debut album! I had only heard one song, "Club Foot", before deciding to buy this. Somehow, I knew the whole CD would kick ass. If you like Kula Shaker, you will "enjoy" Kasabian.

"Hot Fuss" by The Killers (2004) - of course, after hearing Marty Casey go acoustic with "Mr. Brightside" on ROCKSTAR: INXS, how can I imagine anyone else singing it? But this album is so on the money, getting in was worth every centavo. It's great to listen to over and over again.

"Get Born" by Jet (2003) - a vastly onverlooked and under-rated album. It's loads of fun to listen to. Perfect for road trips.

"Alice in Chains: Unplugged" by Alice in Chains (1996) - I miss Lane Stahley....

Songs from the Motion Picture "Judgement Night" (1993) - one of the few successful rock/rap collaborations. Where else can you hear Faith No More playing with the Boo-Yaa Tribe? Or Mudhoney with Sir Mix-a-Lot (yeah, I had the same "what the hell...?" reaction back then). One of my favorite tracks is "Real Thing" by Pearl Jam and Cypress Hill.

"The Wonders of God's Heaven and Earth" Picture Center (1999) - I keep forgetting the title of the album, but I remember buying it on a whim back in 1999 and was rewarded with refreshing trip-hop s***. I always skip track 1, but I love playing the rest of the CD over and over and over....

"Songs About Jane" by Maroon 5 (2004) - it's just one of those "fun" CDs that you can everyone to sing along to when working overtime. Also makes very good driving music.

"Blue Wonder Power Milk" by Hooverphonic (1998) - this is the second album of one of my favorite trip-hop bands. Not as good as their first, but cool just the same. If you like what they call "chill-out music", then you might enjoy this.

"Strung Out on U2" (2000) - a must have for die-hard U2 fans. My sister found in somewhere...God knows where...it was a miracle. It's got U2 classics performed by string quartets. Absolutely beautiful. Check out "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "Bad".

Now that my team's overtime season is coming to close, I wonder what CDs I'll be bringing to work next....

Music A to Z

When a certain music store first opened in Makati almost 10 years ago, they were very particular about the guys they'd hire to man the shop. They wanted music junkies, people who would eat, breathe, live music. One of my childhood friends got his first "Makati job" there.

I'm not a fan of "testing" during the hiring process simply because I don't believe that school grades and how well one does on a standardized test is indicative of performance at work. BUT!...the test that this store had was so cool, I wish I had applied! From the top of your head, name one artist for every letter of the alphabet.

A - Aerosmith
B - The Bolshoi
C - The Cure
D - Dan Reed Network (more carpool memories!)
E - The Eagles
F - Fugazi
G - Gene Loves Jezebel
H - Hootie and the Blowfish
I - Incubus (because INXS is just not roit for me now...)
J - Jamiroquai
K - Kula Shaker
L - Love Spirals Downward
M - Midge Ure
N - Nek (if only I knew what he was singing about!)
O - Oingo Boingo
P - The Police
Q - Queen ("Biiiiicycle! Biiiiicycle!" I haven't been able to get that song out of my head since Saturday)
R - Radioactive Sago Project
S - Sting
T - Thievery Corporation
U - U2 (does anyone actually think of something else?)
V - Vai!!!
W - Wham! (hahaha!)
X - X'mal Deutscheland (the easiest to remember. Is that how you spell it?)
Y - Yanni? (hahaha! Ok, it would have been so cool if I had thought of Yo La Tengo first).
Z - ZZ Top (like U2, does anyone think of another "Z" artist...like DJ Hector Zazou?)

Whew!

That reminds me...I need to update my CD library. Not that I have a lot. My "music collection" is nothing next to Andaya's, Monsy's (most of which is obscure), Jay Ig's, Jay Ort's, Tanya's, Gabby's, Benjor's, my Dad's (good Lord, what a collection! CDs AND vinyl! All in mint condition!). But it's always good to keep track. 250 CDs and counting. God, I can't live without music!

What Was Playing on Your Senior Year?

I wanted to do a "My Life in Music" type of post. It must be because School of Rock has been all over cable TV this past couple of weeks. I've been playing my copy of the soundtrack at work a lot, too. And I just saw The Commitments again last Saturday (I love that film).

Then I found the lazy way out. I got this idea from Lilit:

Step 1: Go to musicoutfitters.com.
Step 2: Type the year of your high school graduation in the "search" slot. That defines your real musical era!
Step 3: Click on the Top 100 Hits of that Year. Then post the music of your times, what you like and don't like or don't remember in the list.

1. Hold On, Wilson Phillips - memories of Sobee screaching at the top of her voice.
2. It Must Have Been Love, Roxette - Bianca's favorite song in High School. I think she still has the tape (yes, we still have tapes here in the age of the iPod).
3. Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O'Connor - yeah, this song was coming out of my ears for a while there.
4. Poison, Bell Biv Devoe - someone kept singing this before...was it Celso?
5. Vogue, Madonna - beautiful video!
6. Vision Of Love, Mariah Carey - oh yes, the song that scared a thousand dogs.
7. Another Day In Paradise, Phil Collins - wow, LS!
8. Hold On, En Vogue - hey, what ever did happen to En Vogue? They were pretty good.
9. Cradle Of Love, Billy Idol - COOLNESS!
10. Blaze Of Glory, Jon Bon Jovi - hahahahaha! Cynthia...?
11. Do Me!, Bell Biv Devoe - what's this?
12. How Am I Supposed To Live Without You, Michael Bolton - nope. Not my cup of tea, dear.
13. Pump Up The Jam, Technotronic - Jessica!
14. Opposites Attract, Paula Abdul - so did she really go out with Arsenio Hall?
15. Escapade, Janet Jackson - another song that was coming out of my ears back then.
16. All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You, Heart - the only popular Heart song that I don't like.
17. Close To You, Maxi Priest - ooh, loved that track!

19. Release Me, Wilson Phillips - which one was this?
20. Don't Know Much, Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville - and this?

22. l Wanna Be Rich, Calloway - what's this?
23. I Remember You, Skid Row - WAAAAAAAAW!!! And because I wasn't a smoker back then, I could sing along almost exactly the same way whatshisname - Sebastian Bach? - did. And in college, the whole carpool would "sing" the guitar solo.
24. Rub You The Right Way, Johnny Gill - what's this?
25. She Ain't Worth It, Glenn Medeiros Featuring Bobby Brown - and this?
26. If Wishes Came True, Sweet Sensation - and this?
27. The Power, Snap - the song that everyone did the Running Man to.
28. (Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection, Nelson - hey, Bianca would sing it and I'd do the second voice. The Nelson twins were...pretty. Hahaha!
29. Love Will Lead You Back, Taylor Dayne - oh, that song that people liked to sing on noon-time variety shows and on Minus One.
30. Don't Wanna Fall In Love, Jane Child - what's this?
31. Two To Make It Right, Seduction - and this?
32. Sending All My Love, Linear - and this?
33. Unskinny Bop, Poison - "unskinny bop bop bop BOP!" (can you tell what kind of music I really liked back then...and still do)
34. Step By Step, New Kids On The Block - what happened to Menudo?
35. Dangerous, Roxette - that was ok....
36. We Didn't Start The Fire, Billy Joel - does anyone actually know all the words and can they sing along?
37. I Don't Have The Heart, James Ingram - which one was this? I'm sure someone taped it from An-an's senti CD collection. Who went to his concert in college?
38. Downtown Train, Rod Stewart - yup yup!
39. Rhythm Nation, Janet Jackson - 1814?
40. I'll Be Your Everything, Tommy Page - don't remember this one.

Alice in Chains, The Bolshoi, The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Housemartins, INXS, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sting, Strawberry Switchblade, and U2 would be on it. Ack! Which reminds me - the Rockstar: INXS finale is tomorrow! What am I going to read on Leper Pop after Thursday?

Birthday for a Cause

A friend of mine is celebrating her birthday in two weeks by spending the day with a group of friends at an orphanage - St. Rita's Orphanage in Sucat, Paranaque. I'm really excited about it because even if I'm not good with kids, my role in fighting the Good Fight is supporting children's causes (have you received a Unicef card from me lately?).

St. Rita's has a little over 20 kids, as follows:
Babies less than 1 year old - 9 boys, 4 girls
Toddlers less than 3 years old - 2 boys, 2 girls
Schoolage (7 to 15 years) - 5 boys, 1 girl

If you would like to make a donation - money, diapers, food, milk, clothes (new or slightly used), toys, books - please drop them off at my house or at my office by the 23rd. Needless to say, if you don't know where I live or work, you're probably not my friend. Hahaha!

Thanks a bunch!

Harry Potter SPOILERS!

Read this post ONLY if you have finished reading "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". And this, my friends, is why all forms of book series are dangerous things! Thank the Maker that "His Dark Materials" was simply a trilogy. "Alvin Maker" isn't done yet. I haven't seen a copy of "The Crystal City" here (it's what I get for not buying it when I saw it in the States).

From an Amazon.com review that my sister came across.
SECRETS REVEALED! THE DUMBLEDORE-SNAPE CONNECTION, August 9, 2005 Reviewer: Adira Rotstein "Scifi Degby" (Carter is everywhere)

I think I have figured something out. Dumbledore is not dead. Snape is.

Dumbledore and Snape used the transfiguration potion to switch places. I'm suspecting it was shortly after Dumbledore destroyed the horcruxring, before school started after Snape made the UnBreakable vow toMalfoy's mother to either help Malfoy kill Dumbledore or kill Dumbledore himself.

Clue 1: Snape stops teaching potions, begins teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. Dumbledore is not great at potions but against the darkarts he is number 1#. This is why Slughorn must be brought in to teach potions.

Clue 2: The conversation that Hagrid overhears on p. 405-406. Snape andDumbledore secret meeting in the forest. Snape and Dumbledore argue and Snape says he doesn't want to do something anymore. This makes completesense if Snape is really Dumbledore and Dumbledore is really Snape, i.e.Dumbledore is having second thoughts about going through with the ruse.

Clue 3: Dumbledore brags about his intelligence and abilities throughout his meetings with Harry-- this is very unDumbledore like and moreSnape-like.

CLUE 4: Whenever Harry brings up his suspicions to anyone, everyone from the Order-- Lupin, Mr. Weasley, etc. all say "I trust Snape completely."Of course they do, Snape IS Dumbledore.

[don't ask me what happened to CLUE 5 - Calai]

CLUE 6: Dumbledore is not fazed when Harry tells him about Malfoy's discussion with Snape at Christmas. This is because, being Snape healready knows all about Malfoy plotting to kill Dumbledore because Malfoy's mother told him in the beginning.

Clue 7: Harry had to get the memory out of Slughorn, something Dumbledore should have very easily been able to do on his own, but if he was really Snape as Dumbledore, he might have been afraid that Slughorn would discover him.

Clue 8 MOST REVEALING: When Dumbledore drinks Voldemort's potion in the cave to get to the locket the potion does something-- I believe it is a potion that makes people relive their worst memories. "His face was twitiching as though...dreaming a horrible dream." Snape is reliving his past with Voldemort. When "Dumbledore" says "I don't want...Don't make me..." he is not referring to Harry feeding him the potion, he is refering to Voldemort forcing him to reveal the prophecy. "No I don't want to...let me go..." etc. Then he screams-- which is Voldemort torturing him in his past and says "No, no I can't." And then "It's all my fault, all my fault....Don't hurt them, don't hurt them, please, please it's my fault, hurt me instead..." -- then after when he begins saying "No no not that, I'll do anything"-- further reliving being tortured at the hands of Voldemort, so Voldemort could extract the information on Lily and James Potter Snape overheard at the Hog's head. Also Snape doesn't share the potion. Nowhere does it say it has to bedrunk by one person. If they each drank half the effects wouldn't be so bad, BUT Snape has made the unbreakable vow, which means if he doesn't kill Dumbledore he himself will die. He is not going to kill Dumbledore so it doesn't matter if he drinks the whole potion because he is going to die anyway.

CLUE 9: When they return to Hogsmeade "Dumbledore" says he has to see Prof.Snape and keeps demanding to see him-- it is because he has to tell the real Dumbledore what happened.

CLUE 8: When they see the Dark Mark in the sky it acts like a stimulanton Dumbledore, giving him energy and drawing him to it. Snape, a former death-eater will always be magically drawn to the mark.

CLUE 9: On p. 586 he says to Malfoy, "Killing is not nearly as easy asthe innocent believe"-- if he truly was Dumbledore-- someone who had never killed-- how would he know? Only Snape would know what it felt like to kill having been a death-eater.

CLUE 10: I believe the Half-blood prince book was given to Harry on purpose. It was so he could improve his skills for the coming battle. If Snape taught him in person, as we found out in the last book things wouldn't go well and Harry wouldn't learn, because of their personal animosity.

CLUE 11:The way "Dumbledore" talks to Malfoy-- as if he truly knew him.

CLUE 12: Snape arrives on the scene -p. 595-- Dumbledore says"Severus..." and Harry notices how "for the first time, Dumbledore was pleading." The real Snape (as Dumbledore) is pleading with the real Dumbledore to kill him quickly. The hatred on fake Snape's face before he kills fake Dumbledore is a hatred of the dark magic he is now forced to preform-- Real Dumbledore has never done the Avada Kedavra curse before.

CLUE 13: Now that "Snape" seems to have killed "Dumbledore" the death-eaters will fully trust him and take him back with them. Thus thereal Dumbledore will now go undercover into Voldemort's lair, where hewill be able to be close enough to Voldemort to kill him or more likely help Harry kill him.

CLUE 14: p. 604-- "Snape" actually has a chance to kill Harry -- but doesn't. The whip-like thing hits Harry across the face which hurts but is not a deadly curse-- like he would've used if he really wanted tokill Harry.

CLUE 15: p. 609 When Harry gets to the locket he sees it isn't the real Slytherin locket. Yet the locket they took out of the fountain seemed to be the real one. The real locket was taken by the real Dumbledore. The note was written by the real Dumbledore.

The initials R.A.B. do not refer to one person, but are the first initials of the first names of some surviving members of the Order ofthe Phoenix-- R- for Remus Lupin A- for Albus Dumbledore B-- could beBill-- but the RAB theory I am not certain of -- Regardless I think the word "Albus" is what the A stands for.

[My own theory is that R.A.B. stands for Regulus A. Black, Sirius' brother and a Death Eater, who supposedly died in the service of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. I do believe that the locket was hidden by Kreacher somewhere in the House of Black - Calai]

CLUE 16: The Felix Felicis-- when Ron and Hermione say it must not have worked because the fight at the castle seemed to have gone all wrong--actually it went perfectly-- it was all supposed to happen this way to allow the real Dumbledore to get into Voldemort's lair.

CLUE 17: No one satisfactorily ever really explains why Dumbledore trusts Snape so completely. It is because they've been in on this plan together possibly having intended it for years. Snape came over to thegood side after Voldemort forced him to confess the prophecy he heard, under extreme torture. Afterwards he was so consumed by guilt, especially over Lily's death, who was the only person at Hogwart's who was ever nice to him that he left Voldemort [that's Miggy's theory, too - Calai].

Ramblings....

I have spent a good part of this year watching one of my closest friends fall into a black hole of his own doing. Sadly, all I can do is wish that I could pull him out. I have never seen him so sad. And I have never felt so useless.

During the first half of the year, I witnessed some of my friends' minor (and major) indescretions. Sometimes, I would let them get away with it. We have all unknowingly or unwillingly been victims at some point in our lives. No wonder I approach all relationships (simple friendships included) so very tentatively.

Not all of my friends have been getting along lately. What kind of people have I been meeting?

For the past couple of months, I have been in a state of malaise. It takes quite a bit to make me happy nowadays. But I try. For the sake of the people I love, I try. I'm so tired.

Last week, I found out that Max's hypothyroid condition is back. And it pains me whenever I get home too tired to play fetch. His happiness is my sanity, my reward. God, I love my dog.

My village is a mess. It's all Joey Marquez's fault.

Earlier this week, I saw a woman drag her screaming son into Starbucks Enterprise's smoking section.

This week, hundreds of thousands of Americans suffered the wrath of Hurricane Katrina. Despite all of the United States' relief efforts in other countries around the world during times of need, they're own government cannot find food and proper shelter for those hit by the storm.

The other day, Ty Taylor, not J.D. Fortune, was booted out of "Rockstar: INXS". I have always known that Ty was "noht roit foh ouh band, INXS", and I understand that because this was his third time in the bottom 3, he was the logical elimination choice. My mom was so affected, she cried when Ty cried, and she wrote to him on his blog. I am of the opinion that J.D. is being kept around for the human drama of the "reality series" part of the show (very Mark Burnett to keep an antagonist around a little longer). However, Ty did not need to pull the race card. Don't tell me that the legendary Jimi Hendrix and current hitmakers Lenny Kravitz and Seal do not properly represent "his people" in the world of rock n' roll. I can't name all rock artists of African descent, but one's ethnicity has never been a problem for me when it comes to music.

My friend started an ambitious blog, http://huli-ka.blogspot.com. I certainly hope that it works to reach his goal, a shared dream of many: proper and effective traffic enforcement. I'm proud of the fact that he's doing his part to uplift this god-forsaken country.

I have to work to a Saturday. My team might even have to work the entire weekend. For about 4 or 5 more weekends.

"And everything that seemed possible at 24, 25, is now just such a joke, such a ridiculous fiction, every birthday an atrocity." - Dave Eggers, "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"

There is something wrong with this world. It scares me that my goddaughter will be born into a world filled with indifference. I hope that she grows up to make a difference.

Torturous Inspiration?

From Jeanette Winterson's "Written on the Body" (1993), which I'm reading for the nth time.

"Why is the measure of loss?"
"I am thinking of a certain September....You said, 'I lov you.' Why is that the most unoriginal thing we can say to one another is still the thing we long to hear? 'I love you' is always a quotation. You did not say it first and neither did I, yet when you say it and when I say it we speak like savages who have found three words and worhsip them. I did worship them but now I am alone on a rock hewn out of my own body.

"CALIBAN You taught me language and my profit on't is
I know how to curse. The red plague rid you
For learning me your language.

"Love demands expression. It will not stay still, stay silent, be good, be modest, be seen and not heard, no. It will break out in tongues of praise, the high note that smashes the glass and spills the liquid. It is no conservationist love. It is a big game hunter and you are the game. A curse of this game. How can you stick at a game when the rules keep changing? I shall call myself Aice and play croquet with the flamingoes. In Wonderland everyone cheats and love is Wonderland isn't it? Love make the world go round. Love is blind. All you need is love. Nobody ever died of a broken heart. You'll get over it. It'll be different when we're married. Think of the children. Time's a great healer. Still waiting for Mr Right? Miss Right? and maybe all the little Rights?
"It's the cliches that cause the trouble. A precise emotion seeks a precise expression. If what I feel is not precise then should I call it love? It is so terrifying, love, that all I can do is shove it under a dump bin of pink cuddly toys and send myself a greetings card saying 'Congratulations on your Engagement'. But I am not engaged I am deeply distracted. I am desperately looking the other way so that love won't see me. I want the diluted version, the sloppy language, the insignificant gestures. The saggy armchair of cliches. It's all right, millions of bottoms have sat here before me. The springs are well worn, the fabric smelly and familiar. I don't have to be frightened, look, my grandma and grandad di it, he in a stiff collar and club tie, she in white muslin straining a little at the life beneath. They did it, my parents did it, now I will do it won't I, arms outstretched, not to hold you, just to keep my balance, sleepwalking to that armchair. How happy we will be. How happy everyone will be. And they all lived happily ever after."
